"Altars of madness" ist ein absoluter Death Metal Meilenstein. Das Album wird im gleichen Atemzug mit "Seven churches" von Possessed genannt und war in den USA maßgeblich für den Höhenflug der US-Death Metal Bands der späten Achtziger Jahre mitverantwortlich. Über 30 Jahre später wird das Album in der Ultimate Edition neu veröffentlicht. Der Full Dynamic Range Sound kommt direkt von den originalen, analogen Bändern und kommt somit ohne jegliche Kompressionen daher. Mehr oldschool geht nicht! Um das Ganze noch abzurunden, ist auf der Bonus-CD das komplette Konzert in Nottingham von 1989 aufgezeichnet. Die Band spielte damals ihr komplettes Debüt plus weitere Bonussongs.
