2002-06-27 - MTV TO SPREAD A LITTLE NATURAL BORN CHAOS
Soilwork’s video for “As We Speak” has been accepted by MTV for inclusion on “Extreme Rock” that airs every weekday night at 1:30AM EST on sister station MTV2. This coincides with other notable stations that have added the video into rotation including Much Music Canada’s “Much Loud” show and Much Music U.S.A.’s “Uranium” show (Monday – Thursday at 7:00PM and again at 1:00AM EST).
To make requests (and we urge you to do so) for MTV2, go to MTV.com and go to the "on-air section" and click on “MTV2.” On the left go to “MTV2 message board” and register to make your request. For Much Music Canada go to muchmusic.com and then go to the “Loud” section. You can email all requests and comments to muchloud@muchmusic.com. For Much Music U.S.A., go to MMUSA.tv and click on the “Uranium” banner when it flashes by. You will go to a new screen. Hit the bottom color bar and that will launch the Uranium site. From there feel free to post to Julia all of your requests and comments. Show ‘em all that the underground means business!
That the video will get widespread play on major commercial stations is just one more triumph for Soilwork in what has already been an extremely successful campaign for Natural Born Chaos. The record has already become the band’s best-selling album only three months after its release thanks in large part to features in Revolver, Guitar World, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Metal Maniacs, Guitar One, Unrestrained! and more. Soilwork also dominated the charts at radio becoming the number one most added at all trade charts (CMJ Loud Rock, CMJ Spin, ALBUM NETWORK and FMQB) the week of April 2, 2002, knocking off Hatebreed after a five-week run. Natural Born Chaos went on to claim the number one spot at CMJ Loud Rock Charts for three consecutive weeks (staying Top 10 for eleven consecutive weeks). They were also the only extreme metal band in day rotation at WSOU where they held onto the number one spot for five weeks.
Hot off the success of the press and radio campaign, the band toured North America for four weeks with Hypocrisy, Killswitch Engage and Scar Culture. The tour culminated with two unforgettable shows when Testament’s Chuck Billy (who hadn’t played live since last year’s Thrash of the Titans benefit festival event) and Eric Peterson performed with the band on stage at the Cactus Club in San Jose, and Warrel Dane of Nevermore sang with them for the last show in Seattle at Experience Music Project.
The band is currently at home in Sweden gearing up for a short tour of Japan in late July. Plans for their return to the U.S. this fall are underway but nothing is confirmed.
