LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA
In the late 16th century the so called witches` mania reached frightening magnitudes. Thousands were executed under inhuman conditions, mostly burned alive at the stake. It was an act of mercy if the victim was strangled before the combustion or was killed with the sword. By death by fire the so cleaned soul of the witch was about to come into heaven. Superstition and envy were opened all doors. Most victims were delivered to an accusation by denunciators. Confessions were forced under barbarian torture from the delinquents, until they admitted everything, half from their senses, what the torturers wanted. Most executed were women, however, also several men were under the victims. In the year 1487 dominican monks had published the book `malleus maleficarum`, or better known as the `witches hammer`, which found a wide spreading by the invention of the letterpress. These were detailed instructions to murder and an oppressive proof of the women hater mentality widespread in the male dominated church, which shows its consequences until our times.
Exemplary there stands a history which took place in the middle of germany, in the free town of Gelnhausen in 1599. The central figures are the mayor of that time, Johann Koch, whose term of office lay between 1584 and 1599 and the priests widow Elisabeth Strupp, who was accused of witchcraft, then condemned and executed with the sword.
The woman, from the majority of the population extremely respected, was accused by envious people, mainly a friendly woman, of witchcraft and church robbery. Because of his hardness and intransigence as a `witch`s judge` infamous Johann Koch should have been responsible decisively for her conviction. Because he wanted to prove the neutrality of his court, concerning the same treatment of all social states, he sentenced her to death, in spite of massive doubts about her guilt. The town was shocked. When it turned out a short time later that the church robbery as well as her conviction were errors of justice, Johann Koch got relieved from his office, became mad and insane of feeling guilty and died after a while in 1603.This album is dedicated to the memory of all the innocent victims that died in the name of religion and false belief.. Think for yourself and respect each other!
